TRAIL CONDITION REPORT 2/27/2017
Gogebic Range Trail Authority
Our weather has been just like a roller coaster. I have been doing reports for years but this year has been very challenging. Today our temps will be a high of 39. Tomorrow the temps will be a high of 38 and a low of 19 with 80% chance of snow and rain. Again it is a wait and see game. Overall trails are poor to fair.
GRTA reports- overall conditions are poor. We have a 14″base and some trails better than others, need more snow to reestablish base.
Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing rolled 2/24 Marginal to poor.
Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield rolled 2/24,poor. Wet area near Blackjack Ski Hill has returned/repoened. Please ride cautiously! Trail is very icy.
Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marensico is good. Groomed 2/26
Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing is marginal condition, will be groomed early this week.
Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI)
Overall Rating: Scheduled bridge completion is 2/15, this is an active construction site please say out! We need immediate help brushing and signing this trail. We cannot groom it without DNR signing/brushing approval so it is a critical task to get this completed. We need people during the week and the weekend. Please contact us (email@example.com or facebook us)so we can include you on the planning conversation(email).
Trail 11 N & 11S are closed.
Lake Gogebic Area Groomers
Bergland Bay Bar report-Conditions are poor. Trail 8 west to the GRTA trail is impassable 4 miles west of Merriweather unless you go up on the highway, which you will get ticketed.
8 east to Kenton is very thin and you will be hitting rocks.
1 south along the west shore of the lake is impassable, water.
13 south gets very thin the farther you go south.
1&8 on the north end of the lake have a few wet spots, has not been groomed.
1 north ok if it was groomed.
From Carolyn at the Hoop reports:
Obviously, there will be more snow on our trails that run back through the woods where the shade coverage will prevent too much melt off. Otherwise look for some bare conditions on corners and near road ways, where salt gets pulled onto the trails. Please stay away from streams, creeks and swampy areas as they will not be safe.
If you still plan on coming up contact a Forest Service office in the area for maps to all UNPLOWED, only, Forest Service roads that you can ride. There is an office in Watersmeet, between Ironwood & Bessemer and also in Ontonagon.

As previously posted, please stay on the trails in Bergland. You are not allowed to ride the hwy. through town and may be ticketed.
The U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet report:
Trail Conditions are fair.
Groomers will run early today before the temps warm up into the high 30’s again and it looks like we will be warm Tuesday too so the groomers may not run Tuesday Feb.,28th. The new snow has done wonders(so have the groomer drivers) and the trails are in fair to good shape with several water spots so use caution.
