There are 100's of sledders up here this weekend and I'm glad to say that the trails are holding up really well. The snow cover is a little thin as you ride through Silver City and then again as you get into White Pine but all in all, decent shape. We have not had any more snow lately but, the trails are snowcovered and the temps are holding steady. More snow is expected this week! The groomers are out there daily! Come on up to enjoy Winter at it's best. Remember to respect the others out there on the trails. Drive Safely. Stop in to see us when you're passing by. Our trails were hit again pretty hard this past weekend. Very warm temps and some drizzle. Much colder temps have now set in and the trails are locked back down. They are being groomed daily! We are under a Lake Effect Snow Warning for higher terrain and near Lake Superior. About a foot or more is expected over the next couple of days. Trail #1 North from White Pine to Silver City is snow covered but a little rough in spots. Silver City to the Park entrance is thin. Once you get on to Trail #11 (South Boundary Rd.) the trail is rated as good to excellent. Some still say it's the best they've ridden on lately. Trail #1 from the Ski Hill to the Lake of the Clouds is also in great shape. When we get this new snow, the trails should be spectacular. Plan a trip up to experience what we have! Just remember if you're out there, BE CAREFUL and RESPECT the other people that are on our trails. Please support the businesses that support your sport. We look forward to seeing you U.P. here. Our trails were hit pretty hard this past Holiday weekend. There were 1000's of sledders out there utilizing our wonderful trail systems. Unfortunately, warmer temperatures set in and the base and snowcover we had were softened and are not in the best shape. Colder temps have now set in and the trails are locked back down. They are being groomed daily! We are waiting for more snow to cover what we have. Trail #1 North from White Pine to Silver City is pretty rough. As is through Silver City to the Park entrance. Once you get on to Trail #11 (South Boundary Rd.) it's not too bad. Some still say it's the best they've ridden on lately. Trail #1 from the Ski Hill to the Lake of the Clouds is still in pretty good shape too. Just remember if you're out there, BE CAREFUL and RESPECT the other people that are on our trails. Please support the businesses that support your sport. We look forward to seeing you. Rick and Jeni Varecha, Mountain View Lodges, Silver City, MI. We have had little to no snow over the past week or so. Temps are holding steady in the high 20's. Great riding temps. Trail #1 to White Pine from Silver City is a little rough as is from Silver City to the Park. Trail 11 is in pretty good shape as is Trail 1 to the Lake of the Clouds. There are some areas that are snirty but, no wet spots that I've seen. Remember to fill up if you're heading this direction. No gas in Silver City. The closest convenience store and gas is at the Konteka in White Pine. Be careful out there! We'd love to hear about your ride. Stop in to see us when you're passing through. December 31, 2009 HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE!!!
Trail #1 is very thin in Silver City with conditions getting better towards White Pine. You will find up to a foot of base in various spots. From the Ski Hill to the Lake of the Clouds is in excellent shape! Trail #11 has a good base of about 16-18 inches and seems to be holding up really well. It has been very cold up here and we haven't had much snow so the base is packed and can be icey in spots. We are under a Winter Lake Effect Snow Warning up here through Saturday. Lots of snow expected! There are a lot of sledders on our trails so, be courteous of the others that share the trail. Please don't drink and ride. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! Happy New Year! Stop in to see us when you're passing through. We are right on Trail #1 between Silver City and the Porkies. Rick and Jeni Varecha Mountain View Lodges (906)885-5256 www.mountainviewlodges.com

Good morning! Not much news up here this week! Our trails are still snowcovered. The Groomer has been down for a few days and the trails are getting a little rough. The temp as I'm writing this is 7 degrees at 11:45 am. The trails are being groomed regularly. Trail #1 to Lake of the Clouds was rated as excellent as is Trail #11 (So. Boundary Rd.) Trail #1 between Silver City and White Pine is still a little rough. We have quite a bit of snow on the trails for this time of the year up here. March 20, 2009
This will be my last report of the 2008-2009 Snowmobiling season. Hope you all enjoyed our trails this past Winter as we've had the best conditions I've seen in years. A short recap. The snow started falling Thanksgiving weekend 2008 and didn't let up until mid to late January. The Big Lake was 90% frozen over by then. Unfortunately, when that happens, the lake effect snow that we would normally get, stops. Then we have to depend on the fronts that come out of the West. Very seldom do those make it here. The trails were in primo shape most of December, January and February. Very little to no traffic early season. Heavy traffic in February and early March. As of today, I would consider the trails up here being unrideable. Trail #11 may still have some base and trail #1 to Lake of the Clouds might be OK, but all trails to these points are bare. If you have a trip planned, please call your lodging facility for an update. We're already looking forward to next year! Have a great Spring, Summer and Fall. Keep in mind, our area around Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mountains is a Four Season Vacation Paradise. Come on up to check it out. The snow does melt, we have green grass, and the lake water does warm up for some excellent swimming, boating, rock-hounding, surfboarding, etc., etc., etc... If you would like more info, give us a call at 906-885-5256 or check out our website: www.mountainviewlodges.com Rick and Jeni Varecha signing out till next year!

Looks like Winter is coming to an end pretty quick. The trails appear to be turning to a sloppy, snirty mess. Trail #11 South Boundary Rd., on the back side of the Porkies, still has a decent base as does Trail #1 from the ski hill West to Lake of the Clouds. Unfortunately, the trails in between are shot. Lot of water and slush. There have been quite a few riders this weekend and what snow there is left on the trails looks like dirt between Silver City and White Pine. Call ahead for current conditions. The Konteka down in White Pine behind the Mall now has gas. Be prepared if you're planning a ride up here. Remember to drive safely and respect others. All of our area trails have been in good to excellent condition as our weather has cooperated this Winter. We've had cold temps and lots of snow so, all of our trails are still snow covered. Unfortunately, it has warmed up a bit and the trails are getting a little sloppy in some spots. The warm temps will pack the snow as it melts, making a tighter base. They are still holding up pretty good. Don't even think about putting your sleds away yet as it's still mid-Winter here and we can still get some good snow. The only gas station in our general vicinity (White Pine) has closed it's doors as of yesterday. The Konteka behind the mall in White Pine will have some gas available starting this weekend, for your convenience. Make sure you fill up before you start your travels. Trails are in decent to great shape right now. Very little mid week traffic . Cold temps expected to hold and, there's a chance of snow in the forecast for the next few days. No wet spots to report as the frigid temps have locked the trail in. Some moguls in various areas. Just be careful. Expecting a high traffic weekend. February 14, 2009 Happy Valentine's Day!
The snow and trail conditions have changed considerably since my last post. We've had cooler temps and ap. 6" of the fresh WHITE STUFF right here in Silver City! The trails are in much better condition and, all are snow covered. Great reports from a few people that have been riding the past couple of days. The cooler temps are here for a while and more snow is in the forecast. Our groomers are out on a daily basis making sure the area trails are in the best condition for your riding pleasure. February 11, 2009
We have not had any new snow for more than a week. Unfortunately, because of the warm temps (mid to upper 40's) for several days, the trails are detiorating rapidly. FYI: I WILL NOT GIVE A FALSE REPORT!!! Trail #1 from the intersection of #1/#11 through Silver City is slim to none. What is there is slushy snirt, if any. Silver City to Whie Pine is also pretty slim and snirty. Many mogals to dodge, if even possible to do so. Trail #1 to the Lake of the Clouds still has a decent base and will be groomed today. Trail #11 as well has a decent base and is holding it's own. Colder temps and snow is in the forecast for the next few days. Just be careful! Remember to support the businesses that support your sport! Drive Safe and Respect Others! Rick and Jeni Varecha www.mountainviewlodges.com
February 6, 2009
The traffic has picked up considerably this the past week. Lot's of riders out there. We have not had any new snow for several days. Fortunately, we have a nice base from our previous snowfalls. The trails are showing some wear. We are expecting a warm up this weekend. And, it will affect what's out there. Trails #1 and #11 in the Porcupine Mountains should be able to withstand the high snowmobile traffic and warm temps. as the base is thick. Be careful when riding into Silver City as it does thin out. Silver City to White Pine is also showing some wear. Just be careful! Remember to support the businesses that support your sport! Drive Safe and Respect Others! Good morning! Blizzard like conditions right here in Silver City today. It's 8 degrees above (windchill -8). Can't see 6' in front of yourself. We have a Winter Storm Advisory in effect until later this evening and then frigid temps expected over the next few days. Our trails have finally been groomed and I'm hearing great reports from the Groomers. Trail (#1) thru Silver City is still thin but usable. Once you get past the Ski Hill on the way up to the Lake Of The Clouds, it's great. Silver City to White Pine is still thin, more snow is expected. Trail #11 (OUR PREMIER TRAIL) is in great condition. Lots of snow and a great base! I'll keep you posted as I get the latest reports. Remember to DRIVE SAFE and RESPECT OTHERS. Hello to all you Snow Lovers. Just wanted to let you know WE HAVE SNOW up here and there's more on the way! The trails have not yet been groomed but it won't be long. Will keep you updated as I find out what the trail conditions are. Several groups came through Silver City this morning on Trail #1 heading up to either the Lake of the Clouds or to catch Trail #11. Spoke with a DNR worker and he said there is about 24" of fresh snow back there. FYI: There are no gas stations in the Silver City area. The closest is in White Pine. So, if you're planning on heading up, be sure to fill up and have all your supplies and tags before you get here. Stop in if you're coming through. We'd love to hear about your experience.
