Hello, my name is Cheryl Martin, I was the president of the North country Snowmobile club for the past two years and secretary for 6 years, and  my husband Dave was  the groomer coordinator/vice president for the club. for the past two years.  We are curently members of the North country snowmobile club,  Greenland Snowmobile club, Ontonagon tourism council and  Lake Gogebic Area  chamber. WE RECEIVED SNOW SNOW AND MORE SNOW. TOTAL FOR THE AREA IN THE PAST TWO DAYS IS 12-14 INCHES. THE TEMPS HAVE BEEN DROPPING ALSO, WHICH MEANS THAT THE TRAILS ARE BACK TO BEING GOOD TO EXCELLENT IN THE AREA AGAIN. GROOMERS ARE OUT NIGHTLY AND THE BASE DID NOT MELTS.

JANUARY 26

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES. TEMPS HAVE BEEN BELOW FREEZING AND THE AREA IS UNDER A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY. WE RECEIVED 3-4 INCHES OF FRESH SNOW. GROOMERS WILL GO OUT SOON. TEMPS AND EXPECTED SNOW WILL HELP THE TRAILS. ALWAYS CALL FIRST BEFORE TRAVELING TO CHECK ON THE MOST UPDATED TRAIL CONDITIONS. HOPEFULLY TRAILS WILL BE BACK TO GOOD SHAPE BY THE WEEKEND.

JANUARY 25

WHAT A CHANGE. WE HAVE GOT THAT "WARM WEATHER" THAT EVERYONE HATES. TRAILS WILL NOT BE GROOMED UNTIL SNOW FALLS AND TEMPS BECOME COLDER.

ALWAYS CALL A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE TRAVELING FOR CURRENT TRAIL CONDITIONS.

JANUARY 22

Trails remain snow covered and a good base is on all the ontonagon area trails. You will find thin snow thur the Silver City area by the lake. More snow is in the forecast. We got the first snow of the season and it has stayed with us. Snow count this winter is over 120 inches. Some warmer weather (30's) packed the snow down some.

You will still be able to enjoy the trails for the next two months. Remember our trails stay covered till April (usually)

Very low traffic seen on the trails. Riders reported good to very good conditions.

January 8, 2010

Snowmobile trails are groomed nightly. Excellent base. Very low traffic. Snowmobile bridge on the Ontonagon bridge is snowcovered and lite.Trails are rated very good to excellent. Reminder to all:groomers have the right away and do not turn around, if you meet one of our groomers say thank you for a job well done.

Trails in the Ontongon area are good to excellent. Nightly grooming is taking place. More cold weather in the forecast. Have a great New Year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE.

HAVE A SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON.

Trails are being groomed nightly. We have had over 100 inches os snow in December and its still coming down. Forecast is for more snow in the next few days. Ideal snowmobiling conditons. A lot of snow,  low traffic, fresh groomed trails, and cold temps. Snow is falling many places, but our base is the best.

12/20/09

Only a few flakes of snow the past 2 days. Colder temps are here now. Groomer went out yesterday to start their nightly grooming and blew a tire. Beware it is on Trail 12. Tire will be fixed when the club gets a replacement. Trails are all still ridable. Snow is deep when you get off the trail. we hope to have groomer up and grooming by the afternoon tommarow.

Snow Snow and more snow. We have got snow everyday since the last report. Total on the ground in 90+ and still falling. Snow has settled and the trails are covered. Continue to watch for some wet spots. Cold temps are in the forecast along with more snow. Snowmobile lane on Ontonagon bridge is snow covered. Groomers will be grooming nightly.

12/11/09

Snow fall from 7am 12/10 to 7am today was 19 inches. Snow fall for December on the lake side is 66inches. Yes we have plenty of snow. These are official snow falls depths that have been recorded. This may be the year of the hugh snow falls.Trails in the area have been panned and groomed. Nightly grooming will start this week.

12/08/09

Well we asked for snow and got it. Snow depth in the area ranges from 1.5 feet to 2 feet, depending on where you are at. The trails have been panned, to help the base set up. You can ride on the trails but they have not been groomed yet. Cold temps and more snow is in the forecast. If riding in the area please watch out for wet spots, some spots on the trails. The bridge in Ontonagon is snow covered. Winter storm warning for Wed....

Snow is on the ground. We have 7-9 around the area, most have 9 inches. It is the nice white light stuff. The snowmobile club will pack the trails when there is ample snow and cold temps. Temps have been in low 20s in daytime and 15-19 at night. The trail report will be updated every few days at this time depending on snow depths and temps.....be patient we will be able to ride soon.

SNOWMOBILIERS: The club is busy signing and brushing the trails. Weather this fall has been quite cool, even cold at times. Maybe this is a good sign for the winter snowfall. Please read the posting follwing this one about trail open dates. Thank you

We will again be giving the snowmobile report for the Ontonagon area this winter. We did already have some snow in October, but did not stay very long. Trails can open from December 1st on, It is up to the DNR to give us the go ahead, when we have enough snow....Lets all think snow in December and maybe we will get those trails open for all to use.

Groomers are out tonight. They report that the trails are good in many places. Groomer went out on trail 12 to trail 101 and found very good snow. Snow the past 24 hours-4-6 inches. Some snow blowing....this may be the last weekend of the season coming up. As before I call the trails overall the good, the bad and the ugly....you will find ridable trails but will probably not find excellent condtions...call before traveling long distances for the most updated conditions. Warmer temps today. We have been pretty lucky all the trails are still in good shape. The groomers are going out daily, but have been grooming when it is below freezing. There is more snow in the forecast so lets hope for a couple more weeks of  riding. All area trails are rated very good to excellent. Light traffic during the week, some trails with no traffic on it for hours. Area trails include White Pine, Silver City, and the Porcupine mountains. All trails are groomed nightly. Cold temps the past few days...Dress Warm!!...below zero past 12 hours. Sunshine occasionally. Plenty of snow, fresh snow averages  from 7-12 inches in past three days.

 Riders state this is the Best they have seen this year.

Come and ride, Snow will be here for many days/weeks yet.

All area trails in Ontonagon, White Pine, Silver City and The Porcupine Mountains are rated good to excellent.
We are gooming nightly. Increased traffic noted this weekend, good solid base, good fresh snow, cold temps...what more can one ask for...Only two wet spots left of the trail, they are marked and you can get around them without any problems....

Winter will still be around for a few more weeks,don't put your sleds away to early.....

Trails are the same as the last report. Wet spots have been marked and some have been drained. Thanks to the club members who go beyone the call of duty-keeping the trails safe for riders. Reports from other clubs say that we are one of the few that still have ridable trails...trails are rated fair to very good...4 inches of snow fell in the Silver City area yesterday... Groomers are out nightly.....enjoy your ride.

2/14/09 Happy Valentines Day

Trail condtions for the Ontongon area trails groomed by the North Country Snowmobile Club: Ontonagon to Greenland -two wet spots, you can go around, both are marked, other areas of the trail are snow covered and good. Ontongon to White Pine, a large wet spot by LP Walsh RD. Members have the area marked, Also bridge over Ontonagon River had a few mogels on it, and yes still snow,,,,members groomed it a few times to smooth it out, It is now good. White Pine To Silver City has a few wet spots, watch your speed on that part of the trail, It does have snow on it. Silver City to the Porucpine Mountains has a couple wet spots, along the lake. Silver City trail by road does have snow on it. South Boundary and the trail going to the Lake of the Clouds is in very good condtion. We received 3-5 inches of snow in the past 24 hours and it is trying to snow again today. Cold temps have kept our trails from melting.   Reminder to all: We usually have snow for the month of March, dont put you sleds away. Always call for the most updated condtions before traveling long distances to snowmobile.....Have a great ride!

Trails are still snow covered. The trail between ontonagon and greenland has two wet spots. These are marked and you can easily get around them. Trails checked today. We have been pretty lucky to have the good snow base. All trails in Ontonagon area including white pine, silver city and the porcupine mountains will be groomed in am. The groomers will be busy getting the trails back to the great condition they were in before the warm temps we had. Reminder the groomer has the right away on the trails. Don't forget to thank the groomer if you see them, these members of the North Country Snowmobile club spend many hours not only grooming but fixing groomers, maintaining trails, cutting brush, signing, and working on the trails for YOU.

SO FAR SO GOOD. we have had some warm weather the past two days. We have a good base so the trails do have snow on them. They are bumpy at this time due to warm weather. Cold temps in the forecast with more snow.

Nothing much to say except that all the area trails are in very good to excellent condtion. These include Ontonagon, White Pine, Silver City and the porcupine mountains. We have a great snow base, that is deep and packed. Warmer weather in forecast, it will not melt all our snow. Remember in Ontonagon we measure snow by the foot not the inch. Always call for updated report if unsure of conditons.

More snow in the forecast. We have it started but dont know how to stop the snow now..it just keeps snowing...any suggestions?

Snowmobiliers report great trails

only two problems yesterday. Trail from Greenland to Ontonagon became bumpy, due to drifts. Groomer reports much better now after groomed.

South Bounday Trail in the Porcupine mountains had a sled fire yesterday. DNR notified club and our groomer Jerry went out immediatly and fixed the trail. Thanks to Jerry for prompt action-keeping our snowmobiliers safe.

Ontonagon area trails are very good to excellent. Trails all received snow the past 30 hours  ranging from 12-18 inches. Groomers out nightly. More traffic noted the past two days in the area. Don't forget to stop at the newest attraction: Summit peak in the porcupine mountains. Trail to Lake of the clouds very good, South Boundary in the mountains is excellent. Trail from Ontonagon to White pine good, Ontongon to Greenland good. Bridge in Ontonagon snow covered.

1/1/09 HAPPY NEW YEAR

Trail from Ontonagon to White Pine was groomed last nigtht, groomer found it to be rough. He said that he got it smooth again. We did not groom that portion of the trail the night before. All trails are good, even through Silver City. Please watch your speed in Silver city-the trail is by the road and you will be going over several driveways. Trail along lake is snow covered, but spots of snurt can be found. Lake of the clouds and South boundary road in the porcupine mountains are very good to excellent. Trail from Ontonagon to Greenland in good shape.

12/29 Trails are good to very good. Very cold today. Very windy. Some snow fell around 2 inches. Hard to measure due to drifting. Goomers out tonight. If you are going out tonight or early am tommarrow, dress for below zero wind chill. Stay safe and warm.

12/28                WE DID NOT GET RAIN

WE WERE VERY LUCKY,  WE DID HAVE WARM TEMPS 34 YESTERDAY AND SOME SNOW MELTED.

WE WENT OUT TO CHECK THE TRAILS TODAY. ALL ARE STILL SNOW COVERED, MANY ARE IN GOOD SHAPE. THERE IS SOME ICE ON A FEW CORNERS-BEWARE. GROOMER OUT ON SOUTH BOUNDARY THIS AFTERNOON. SILVER CITY TRAIL IS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD, IT HAS SNOW ON ENTIRE TRAIL,  SOME SNURT   ALONG THE LAKE SIDE IN SPOTS.ONTONAGON TRAILS ARE ALL SNOW COVERED AND RIDERS REPORT PRETTY GOOD. OTHER TRAILS WILL BE GROOMED TONIGHT. TEMPS ARE NOW 20-25 SNOW IN THE FORECAST, ALONG WITH COLD TEMPS.

Trails in the Ontonagon area are ready for riders. Trails are in Ontonagon, White Pine, Silver City, Summit Peak, Lake of the Clouds, and South Boundary in the Porcupine Mountains. Trails maintained by North Country Snowmobile Club

December 11, 2008

The groomer went out on the trail. Some spots have only 12 insches of snow while others have alot more. It has snowed for the past 9 hours. It is the nice fuffy snow. We will be going out to do actual grooming as snow dictates, Temps have been cold. For more information call 906-884-2187

Conditons the same. Some new snow today around 2-4 inches of the white fluffy stuff. Think snow

We are trying to get out to pan the trails in the next couple days. Groomer in Ontonagon is ready.White pine/Silver City groomer is awaiting a part. Expect a few wet spots on the trail it still early in the year. Think Snow.

December 7th

Light snow today. Groomers will go out in the next two days to check conditions and start to pack snow. They will not be grooming the trails yet. Some people have asked where I get my information on the trail conditions. My husband is the vp and I am the president of the local snowmobile club. Reports are emailed or called in to us nightly on conditions. Trails are maintained by North Country Snowmobile Club, located in Ontonagon. Trails are located in White Pine, Silver City and Ontonagon.
